Our History
NewPort’s parent company, World shipping inc. began its history in Cleveland, Ohio April 1, 1960. Founder, Jack E Hunger, saw the potential of starting a shipping company based on the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway system in 1959. As the company progressed, special divisions were created to suit the customers’ needs. ContainerPort Group was established to handle the transportation of dry containers. Then, in 1995, NewPort Tank Containers, Inc. was founded to handle bulk liquid moves, thus becoming the ISO tank division.
NewPort soon developed into a full fledge NVOCC devoted to shipping ISO tank containers around the world. After partnering up with Sinochem in 2008, NewPort has expanded its reach into the Asian market, thus expanding NewPort’s fleet and abilities to transport ISO tanks. As the popularity of using ISO Tanks grows, so does NewPort's fleet of tanks. NewPort has since expanded it Company internally and externally to offer our customers the best products and services available.
Today, NewPort’s ISO tanks can be found on dozens of countries, on thousands of different vessels, and have seen every major body of water on this planet. Still family owned, NewPort is big enough to handle any shipment, while being able to maintain its quality customer service that can be found with a smaller company. Costumer care and pride in how we operate are the building blocks in which we can help your company grow.
